Equine Permaculture & "Terroir"

A lot of horse owners understand the benefits of managing their horses more "naturally" - but this goes way beyond getting them out of the box stall and into a pasture with herd-mates. Do you know how the mineralogy of the soils and bedrock are helping or hindering your "natural" management efforts? Do you know what role the groundwater geochemistry, ecological environment, and facility design are playing in your horses' well-being? And do you know how these factors are influencing your feed, supplementation, and vet bills without your knowledge? I can help you understand the hidden factors at play in your equestrian property environment and get them to work for you in a more holistic and sustainable way.

Here in the Wine Country, I coined the phrase "Equine Terroir" to describe this qualitative and quantitative Holistic Horse Property Evaluation.

GEOLOGIC CONSULTING BACKGROUND

I am a licensed California Professional Geologist with a decade of experience in engineering geologic consulting and project management throughout Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Napa, and Marin Counties. I practice engineering geology with RGH Consultants, Inc. in Santa Rosa.

My experience encompasses engineering geology, geotechnical engineering design and construction support, groundwater and surface water hydrology, and environmental remediation.  My project portfolio includes equine properties, vineyards, rivers and creeks, reservoirs, estuaries and coastal environments, bridges, schools, parks, residential and commercial developments, roadways, infrastructure,  reservoirs, landslides, ocean bluffs and sea-caves.  I excel at coordinating project work with various oversight and permitting agencies, private businesses, and the general public.  My expertise in local engineering geology and understanding of the nature, behavior, and needs of the horse make me uniquely qualified to specialize in a new type of consulting for equine properties - you will not find this type of combined professional expertise anywhere else.

Whether you are considering buying a horse property, or you are planning equestrian facilities on your site, I am the first resource you should call.
